San Juan County. Although Rainbow Bridge is the largest natural bridge in the United States it currently (2016) only ranks as the world's 11th largest natural arch. This ranking may go up or down with better measurements and fresh discoveries.
Although it was probably known to Native Americans earlier it was first discovered by the Cummings - Douglass Expedition in 1909. The expedition was lead by John Wetherill with Indian guide Nasja Begay. It is now a National Monument.
It spans Bridge Canyon an arm of Lake Powell. The easiest way to get to Rainbow Bridge is to take a boat trip from Wahweap Marina near to Page Arizona. However, the lake level has fallen so much that it now needs a mile and a half round trip from the boat dock to the bridge. This aerial photo shows how much closer the boat dock used to be. Alternatively, it is possible to backpack around Navajo Mountain a distance of 13 - 14 miles.

The bridge has a span of 234 ft and a height of 245 ft.
