Unnamed Arch in Dimmuborgir 1

Less than a mile off the eastern shore of Lake Myvatn in north central Iceland lies Dimmuborgir. There a pool of lava about 1 ¼ miles in diameter formed during a volcanic eruption. High pillars of lava then formed when steam rose through the molten rock and cooled. This has left a dark satanic landscape which gives the area its name “dark cities” or “gloomy castles”. 

This arch can be seen on the Big Circle Trail near to the start of the Church Circle Trail.
