The route was subsequently lost until in 2000 a team from National Geographic Magazine was successful in retracing Shipton's steps. http://www.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0012/feature6/index.html The team climbed to the top of the arch then abseilled to the base. They measured the height of the opening around 1200 ft making it the world's tallest natural arch. It is located in the mountains near to the city Kashgar in Xinjiang province. A description of Eric Shipton's journey is recorded by his wife Diana Shipton in her book The Antique Land.
